Irene is originally from Burbank, California. She has a bachelor's degree in political science and government from the University of California, Riverside. She lives in downtown Herndon. If elected, she would be the first Korean American woman to be a member of the Virginia House of Delegates.

Professional background

Irene Shin is the current executive director of the Virginia Civic Engagement Table. She used to be the senior director of CrowdPAC, the state finance director for the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, and finance director for multiple political campaigns, including Kamala Harris for Senate, John Foust for Congress, and Eloise Gomez Reyes for Congress. She was the Director of Korean American Outreach for John Choi for City Council in 2013.

Irene Shin is currently the state delegate representing District 8. She was first elected in 2022 and has been in office for one term. She is a member of the Communications, Technology, and Innovation Committee; and the Counties, Cities, and Towns Committee.
