Matielyn Jones' campaign for state senator is her first entry into politics.

Matielyn is a research director on diversity and inclusion training. She used to work as a freelance consultant and an administrator at a charter school. She was also a staffer on President Obama's 2008 campaign in North Carolina. She used to teach social studies at Gwinnett County Public Schools.

Matielyn was born in New Orleans. She has lived in Georgia since she was in high school. She has a bachelor's degree in politic science and a master's degree in social foundations of education from Georgia State University.. She lives in Buford with her husband, Darryle. They have two sons.
