Melody was born in Toronto, Canada. She has a bachelor in arts in criminology from the University of Florida and a law degree from Emory University.

Melody is a real estate agent and advocate. She co-founded The Georgia 55 Project, a grassroots get-out-the-vote organization. Previously, she practiced law at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, a school employment law firm.
