Jay is the current chairman of the Chatham Democratic Committee. He also works as a Chief Mentoring Officer for Change 4 the Next Level.

He served as the District 6 Chatham County Commissioner from 2017 to 2021. Jones ran for Chatham Commission chairman in 2020 and did not win.
