Keona was born and raised in Atlanta. Keona attended Clark Atlanta University, graduating with a degree in education. Keona also received a master's degree in adult education from Central Michigan University. She has been involved in the community as Vice-President of the North West Business Association (NWBA), Secretary of the Northwest Atlanta Pastors Community Alliance (NAP-CLA), Education Committee Chair of the Atlanta Planning Advisory Board (APAB), Board Member of the Police Athletic League (PAL), Secretary of Atlanta Planning Advisory Board (APAB), Committee on Council and member of the Westside Park Advisory Committee. She currently lives in Atlanta.

Keona is currently a community organizer. Previously, she worked as an adjunct instructor at Dekalb Technical College. She has worked as an advocate in programs like Babies Can't Wait. She also owned five personal care homes for senior citizens.

Keona Jones ran for Atlanta City Council member for District 3 in 2021 and did not win. She served as chair for Atlanta's Neighborhood Planning Unit J in 2020.
