Justice Colvin is from Atlanta, Georgia. She attended DM Therrell High School. She has a bachelor’s degree in government and religion from Sweet Briar College and a juris doctorate from the University of Georgia School of Law. She lives with her husband and children and attends First Baptist Church.

Prior to her career as a judge, Justice Verda previously worked as an assistant United States attorney in the Middle District of Georgia, an assistant solicitor in Athens-Clarke County, assistant general counsel to Clark Atlanta University, and an assistant district attorney in Clayton County. She has served on various committees including the Rules Committee for the Council of Superior Court Judges, Governor Nathan Deal’s Criminal Justice Reform Committee, and she currently serves as the Chair of the Access to Justice Committee.

Justice Verda Colvin currently serves as a Justice on the Supreme Court of Georgia. She was appointed in 2021 by Governor Brian Kemp. She sits on the Judicial Qualifications Commission. She previously served on the Georgia Court of Appeals for one year. Prior to her work on the appellate level, she served as a Superior Court Judge in the Macon Judicial Circuit for nearly six years.
