Byron was born and raised in Atlanta. Byron attended Atlanta public schools and went to Howard University and Clark Atlanta University. He was the chair of his Neighborhood Planning Unit and president of the Vine City Civic Association and is a board member of Beulah Baptist Church. Byron and his wife have three daughters and one son. They live in Vine City.
