- State Senators are elected to two-year terms. They are paid a yearly salary of $17,342.

Economic Growth — The legislature can pass bills aimed at economic development in Georgia, such as the Entertainment Industry Investment Act which provides a tax credit for film production in Georgia.
Housing Costs — The legislature can pass bills that regulate rental costs, such as the Safe at Home Act which prohibits landlords from charging more than two months' rent for a security deposit. The same bill requires that landlords meet a minimum standard of habitability in rental units and ensure that the property is suitable for living.
