Discussion, consideration and action regarding approval of Interlocal Agreement between Texas Department of Motor Vehicles and Fannin County to utilize the SCOFFLAW Program to flag and hold renewal of vehicle registrations of vehicles involved in unresolved moving violations in Fannin County – County Judge for Justice of the Peace Precinct 3: JP for Precinct 3 Judge Kenny Karl expounded on why he believes this action is necessary and feasible.

After some discussion he requested the Scofflaw Program be utilized and to not only include fees for moving violations, but also other fines/fees imposed by the county.

Requested that Fannin County use the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles SCOFFLAW Program for moving violations and other county fines.

Allows people unable to pay their full fines to appear before the court and make payment arrangements.

He concluded that this is not an effort to take people to jail but it is an effort “to get people to do the right thing.” He noted that those who may be in financial difficulty and are unable to pay their full fine can come before the judge to make a payment arrangement.
