Legal Experience

Current District Judge Brock Smith is stepping down due to a state law outlining age requirements of the position. The race between Lloyd and Belew did not draw a Democratic opponent.

Stepping into the role, Lloyd said he’s focused on maintaining decorum in the courtroom and the bringing back dignity and respect to the judicial system.

Lloyd also wants to shine a light on veterans and mental health from the bench.

“There are specialty courts allowed by statute that actually address concerns that are not always addressed in a regular litigation setting,” he said. “There are ways to help people with PTSD and mental health, and there are ways to collaborate and corroborate evidentiary facts [and] bring in the right people to help assist families even in a CPS setting where we can help people holistically, instead of putting them through the system and throwing them straight into jail. There’s funding and grants, and I intend to look into those programs so that we can keep our communities — both Wise and Jack — healthy and well… We can save ourselves a lot of taxpayer money and time.”
