Legal Experience

To not just protect but also transform our community, DA Willis created the groundbreaking diversion initiative “Burden to Blessing.” This opportunity gives nonviolent offenders a second chance to wipe their slate clean and acquire life and job skills for an even brighter future. He also partners with drug, mental health, and veterans courts to help get offenders back on their feet.

Justice takes many forms, and while the Collin County District Attorney zealously prosecutes violent and habitual defendants, we are also committed to re-imagining the traditional role of a prosecutor and the system we represent. The mission of the District Attorney Opioid Treatment Program is preventing crime and increasing public safety by holding eligible defendants accountable while providing the resources, skills, community-relationship building, and education needed to break the often-recurrent cycles of addiction and crime.

District Attorney Opioid Treatment Program

The District Attorney Opioid Treatment Program will utilize medication-assisted treatment through the use of extended-release naltrexone as an alternative to incarceration for appropriate non-violent offenders suffering from opioid addiction. The District Attorney Opioid Treatment Program offers eligible defendants a chance to avoid a criminal conviction and other punitive sanctions (including fines, probation, and incarceration), while also providing the tools and education necessary to help defeat addiction and prevent future criminal behavior.

As Criminal District Attorney, Greg Willis believes his duty is to seek justice first and foremost. He believes our citizens deserve a criminal justice system of the highest integrity. Achieving that requires many things: Utter respect for our Constitution, professional training, dogged preparation, respect for witnesses, concern for victims, and candor to the court and public. It also requires highly trained law enforcement, and open lines of communication between the Office and our police agencies and officers.

The Mental Health Unit was created by Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis in an effort to identify defendants suspected of having mental illness or intellectual disability and increase overall effectiveness in the Collin County MHMC Program.

Mental Health Unit

Throughout the years, the Texas Legislature has created a system of legal protections for victims of family violence. Protective orders have been the primary civil legal remedy since 1979. The advantage of these orders is the criminal penalty that occurs when the orders are disobeyed. Over time, protective orders have come to protect not only members of the same family but also members of the same household, individuals who have or have had a dating relationship, and victims of sexual assault. Collin County Criminal District Attorney Greg Willis is committed to helping these victims obtain enforceable protective orders.
