John Tynan and his wife, Christi, have been married for 36 years. They have lived in Fannin County for the last 35 years. John has studied criminal law, finance and insurance, contractual law, and Texas real estate. He is a volunteer firefighter and participates in men's ministry groups.

John Tynan lives with his wife, Christi. He volunteers as a reserve law enforcement officer, volunteer firefighter, and with men's ministry groups.

John is an equipment operator for the Fannin County Road and Bridge Department. He previously worked in the automotive industry for over 25 years, including at Parts Plus and Carter Wood Motor Company. He is also a licensed real estate agent.

- Presides over commissioners court, county’s policy-making body. Helps adopt county budget, sets county tax rates, oversees building and maintaining county infrastructure, and other county government operations.
- Serves as judge of county court, taking on misdemeanor criminal and small civil cases, probate matters, and appeals from the justice of the peace court.
- Performs administration duties, ranging from hearings for beer and wine license applications to calling elections. Can serve as budget officer in counties with a smaller population.
- Serves as county’s emergency management director, with authority to designate an assistant to emergency management issues as emergency management coordinator.
