SHAWN WINS PRECINCT 4 COUNTY COMMISSIONER RACE — Colby Shawn will be the next Precinct 4 county commissioner after winning his race over Mike Richey by a vote of 877 to 823, or 52 to 48 percent in the Republican primary runoff. Shawn led 579-523 in early voting, and Richey had a 300-298 advantage on election day. The race does not include a Democratic opponent in the November election.

I’ve pushed for responsible planning and continue to explore strategies to reduce the burden on homeowners, including advocating for appraisal district reform at the state level.

Housing & Urban Development

Wise County Commissioners will hold a public hearing Monday and could take action to reduce speed limits and designate school zones on multiple county roads surrounding Paradise. Precinct 4 Commissioner Colby Shawn has proposed reducing the speed limit on County Road 3355 in the Cottondale area from 40 mph to 30 mph, with the same reduction planned on the portion of the roadway as it turns into School House Road heading north into Paradise city limits.

The hearing will also cover the designation of school zones on School House Road and Olde Towne Road. Precinct 4 Commissioner Colby Shawn said residential growth in the area and construction of the new Paradise High School campus have created the need to improve traffic safety.

As Commissioner, I supported the purchase of EMS Marine 1, giving us rapid access to water emergencies. I also approved the construction of a new EMS station in Alvord for Medic 5, improving ambulance coverage in northern Wise County.

Innovative Infrastructure: Flood‑Sensor Network. In partnership with Wise County's Office of Emergency Management, I've supported the deployment of a county‑wide flood‑sensor network, installing high-tech devices at low‑water crossings across all four precincts. These sensors track water levels and rising rates in real time—and during our recent heavy rains, they gave our team advance warning of road flooding. This allowed us to proactively close roads and warn residents before conditions became dangerous.

Now, we're working toward expanding this system—and planning a public dashboard—so that YOU will soon be able to access live flood and road‑closure data. It’s part of my commitment to modern, data‑driven public safety, ensuring Wise County stays ahead of the next storm.
