Sewer service may be on the way for parts of Jonestown. Remarkably, the majority of the cost to Jonestown would be on someone else’s dime. Support of the agreement that will make the service possible, however, is not unanimous.

A pending interlocal cooperation agreement between Jonestown and Leander will secure 1,000 LUEs of wastewater, or sewer, service for use by Jonestown in exchange for a territorial land swap involving an 18+ acre tract that will go to Leander and is part of the Travisso development. An LUE is a Living Unit Equivalent and is defined as the typical flow that would be produced by a single-family residence located in a typical sub-division.

The agreement was approved by the Jonestown city council last week in a 3-1 vote that saw a fifth council member, John Tichi, who is the general manager of the Jonestown Water Supply Corporation, reluctantly recuse himself from discussing the issue or voting on the measure because of what was argued by Jonestown’s city attorney to be a conflict of interest.
Alderwoman Donna Jo Priem was the sole dissenting vote, with Alderman Joe Aaron, Alderman Paul Johnson and Alderman Dave Nelsen voting in favor of the agreement. Leander’s city council is expected to approve the measure this week.
