Wendy Maynard

Wendy is the Union County Clerk of Superior Court. She works at the Union County Clerk of Superior Court’s Office, where she has been since winning election in 2022. She previously worked at the Clerk of Superior Court’s Office in Charlotte as a deputy clerk handling filings for district, superior and small claims cases; at the Union County Clerk’s Office performing civil, cashier, small claims, front desk and criminal court duties; and as a legal assistant in the Union County District Attorney’s Office, where she managed Superior Court calendars, coordinated the grand jury process and supported prosecutors in preparing cases.

The Clerk of Superior Court is elected in each county through a partisan election for a four-year term. The Clerk has five main responsibilities:
- Probate Judge: Handles 46 types of actions, including managing estates, guardianship proceedings, and appointing personal representatives.
- Court Administrator: Oversees the administration of the court.
- Record Keeper: Files, processes, and maintains all cases and documents submitted to the court.
- Financial Manager: Manages the collection, investment, and distribution of money from court fees and traffic citations.
- Employee Manager: Supervises a team ranging from 5 to over 200 employees.
