Matt Scott is from Pembroke, North Carolina. He has a bachelor 27s degree from North Carolina State University, a law degree from the University of Wisconsin, and a master 27s degree in strategic studies from the United States Army War College. He is married to his wife, Jessica, and they have two children together.

Matt is the district attorney for Robeson County. He previously served as an assistant district attorney in the same office. Before joining the district attorney's office, he served as a judge advocate and paratrooper in the United States Army for eight and a half years. He also worked as a special assistant United States attorney. Matt is a combat veteran who served in Iraq, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. He continues to serve his country as a colonel in the United States Army Reserve.
