After graduating, I became a social worker in long-term care, advocating for older adults and their families during some of the most vulnerable seasons of life. In 2014, I made a deliberate decision to move back home to Richmond County. I chose community over convenience, because I understood firsthand the value of raising children in a place where family, relationships, and support systems still matter. Richmond County gave me room to grow as a young mother still pursuing both life and career goals.

Supporting aging services is deeply personal to me. My professional background in healthcare and senior services, with a bachelor's degree in Gerontology, has allowed me to see firsthand the challenges older adults and their families face every day, especially when resources are limited or systems feel hard to navigate. As a county commissioner, I would bring forward ideas focused on helping seniors age in place safely, strengthening community-based supports, and advocating for facilities and services that meet seniors where they are.

I began my professional journey in healthcare in 2006, working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) that I earned while in high school, while putting myself through college. I didn’t take a traditional path. I worked nights, took classes during the day, and balanced motherhood along the way. By the time I graduated from Winston-Salem State University in 2011, I was married and already a mother of two. Those early years taught me responsibility, humility, and resilience long before any title ever did.

In 2014, I made a deliberate decision to move back home to Richmond County. I chose community over convenience, because I understood firsthand the value of raising children in a place where family, relationships, and support systems still matter.

That same year, I opened an adult day center, naming it after my grandfather, Willie Wright Day Center, to honor the legacy of care, dignity, and service he modeled. The center served disabled adults for several years before closing in 2020, but the mission never left me: making sure our elders are seen, supported, and able to age with dignity.

When a vaccination mandate forced me to leave long-term care, I pivoted.... again. I focused full-time on the logistics company that I invested in after closing the day center, and within two years, I grew it to gross over seven figures. That success wasn’t luck, it was built through grit, faith, long hours, and the ability to rebuild even when life knocks you down.

Youth Investment: Because I currently work with at-risk youth, and I see daily how limited activities, resources, and safe outlets impact their choices, confidence, and futures. When we invest in our youth, we don’t just manage symptoms, we interrupt cycle.

Supporting local businesses is essential to building a strong, resilient county. As a county commissioner, my role would be to bring forward thoughtful ideas that help small businesses grow and thrive while balancing the needs of the entire community. These ideas include exploring smart, performance-based tax incentives that reward hiring locally and offering livable wages, prioritizing infrastructure improvements that directly impact daily business operations, and creating intentional spaces, like business roundtables, where local owners can be heard and collaborate with county leadership. While no single commissioner can act alone, I believe these practical, community-driven approaches can help strengthen our local economy and keep Richmond County moving forward.

Access to safe, affordable housing is foundational to a healthy community, and it is an issue I have seen impact families, seniors, and workers across our county. As a county commissioner, I would bring forward ideas focused on encouraging responsible housing development that aligns with the county’s long-term needs. This includes thoughtfully considering zoning and rezoning options that allow for a mix of housing types, while still respecting the character of our communities. While housing decisions require collaboration and careful planning, I believe proactive leadership and smart land-use strategies can help expand housing opportunities and support sustainable growth throughout the county.

Public Safety

Advancing our county requires more than local decision-making; it requires strong advocacy at the state level. I am willing and prepared to actively serve on relevant steering committees to ensure our county’s voice is present where policies, funding priorities, and long-term strategies are shaped. By participating in these committees, I would advocate for resources that address our local needs, whether related to infrastructure, housing, healthcare, or aging services and work collaboratively with leaders across the state. While progress is made collectively, I believe showing up, staying engaged, and speaking up for our county is how we move Richmond County forward with intention and accountability.

Her faith led her to prison ministry at Richmond Correctional Institution (previously known as Morrison Correctional Institution,) where she began working with female inmates, offering Bible studies and words of encouragement. That opportunity opened the door to a 30-year career at the institution, where she advanced from a correctional officer to a correctional training instructor, sergeant, lieutenant, classification coordinator and training specialist.

She later returned to Richmond County, attended Richmond Community College and earned an associate degree in criminal justice before moving to New Orleans. There, she worked as a paraprofessional teaching fifth and sixth grade math. “I don’t know how in the world I did it. It must’ve been arithmetic,” she joked.

Linda S. Ross previously worked at Richmond Correctional Institution as a correctional officer, correctional training instructor, sergeant, lieutenant, classification coordinator and training specialist. She also worked as a paraprofessional teaching fifth- and sixth-grade math.
