I was born in Union County in 1974, to my parents Donald and Nancy Nance, along with my older brother Paul Nance. My family and I are members and attend Hopewell Baptist Church. I have a heart for young adults and have worked with the youth program for over 9 years.

Career

I began my career in 1995 in Charlotte working for the Clerk of Superior Court’s Office for then Clerk Martha Curran. I worked as a deputy clerk in the Civil Department as a filing clerk for District, Superior and Small Claim matters. I later transferred to Union County Clerk of Superior Court’s Office for then Clerk Nola McCollum.

I began my career in 1995 in Charlotte working for the Clerk of Superior Court’s Office for then Clerk Martha Curran. I worked as a deputy clerk in the Civil Department as a filing clerk for District, Superior and Small Claim matters. I later transferred to Union County Clerk of Superior Court’s Office for then Clerk Nola McCollum.

As a Legal Assistant, I currently manage the Superior Court calendars, coordinate the Grand Jury process, and am the personal Legal Assistant for the Chief Assistant District Attorney. I maintain the statical values of cases in Union County to include pending and all disposed cases.

Wendy currently works as a legal assistant in the District Attorney’s Office. She previously worked as a deputy clerk and filing clerk in the Civil Department of the Charlotte Clerk of Superior Court’s Office and later worked for the Union County Clerk of Superior Court’s Office.

2026 North Carolina General Election

I later transferred to Union County Clerk of Superior Court’s Office for then Clerk Nola McCollum. While working for the Union County Clerk’s Office I had the opportunity to work in the Civil, Cashier, Small Claims, Front Desk and in the Criminal Department where I enjoyed being a deputy clerk in District and Superior Court. In 2004, I transferred to the District Attorney’s Office, Prosecutorial District 20, which included, Union, Anson, Stanly and Richmond counties for then District Attorney Ken Honeycutt as a Victim/Witness Legal Assistant.

I maintain the statical values of cases in Union County to include pending and all disposed cases. I am a legal assistant for victim rights cases and advocate for the victims throughout the court process. Other areas that I have worked in during my time in the District Attorney’s Office are, Victim/Witness Assistant in Domestic Violence court, working on Superior Court cases which includes preparing indictments, running criminal background checks, sending letters to victims as required by General Statute, helping the Assistant District Attorney to make sure the file is complete and ready for court.

Having my current position, the last 17 years has taught me the importance of public service and helping victims during their most difficult times in life. The Clerk of Superior Court is elected in each county through a partisan election for a four-year term. The Clerk has five main responsibilities:
- Probate Judge: Handles 46 types of actions, including managing estates, guardianship proceedings, and appointing personal representatives.
- Court Administrator: Oversees the administration of the court.
- Record Keeper: Files, processes, and maintains all cases and documents submitted to the court.
- Financial Manager: Manages the collection, investment, and distribution of money from court fees and traffic citations.
- Employee Manager: Supervises a team ranging from 5 to over 200 employees.


Oversees the county's probate court, judicial administration, records, and finances.
