John F. Kennedy Airport is one of the world’s greatest engines of economic growth – and it is also in our neighborhood, right here in Assembly District 31. In the Assembly, I have advocated to increase the ways that our communities can be at the forefront of small business opportunities and job opportunities at the airport.

In the legislature, I introduced a bill that directed the Department of Financial Services to study the ways that the COVID-19 pandemic impacted underbanked and underserved areas as well as small businesses and minority and women-owned business enterprises as they apply for loans.

We need green jobs, urban agriculture and food cooperatives that benefit all in the Rockaway and Southeast Queens. There are great organizations that are leading this work in our communities but there is still much work ahead.

Southeast Queens and The Rockaways demand more covid-10 testing sites. We demand critical income support for everyone who’s been told to stay home and not go to work, especially those who might even think they are unemployment insurance ineligible. Hazard pay for each of our essential worker neighbors is what we deserve.

Health Care For All:

Access to quality and affordable healthcare is a human right, and I am dedicated to continuing to advocate for healthcare reform that will lead to equitable access for people in Assembly District 31 and across New York State.

We will also continue the fight for the New York Health Act, collaborate with community organizations to advance initiatives that promote access to healthy foods, and partner with local healthcare experts, like the medical professionals at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, to provide regular updates about healthcare and overall wellness to the communities in our district.

My office has trained over 150 community members in mental health first aid in collaboration with the NYC Department of Health of Mental Hygiene, and we are working to continue these efforts.

And we know we can do more. We’re fighting, raising our voices as loud as we can, to tell the powerful the truth they must hear. Southeast Queens and The Rockaways demand more covid-10 testing sites. Public Safety

Though I have joined my colleagues in the decades-long fight to fully fund Foundation Aid and we have achieved that necessary funding, there is still much work necessary in the days ahead to ensure that all schools have the access to resources that support students’ academic and social and emotional success. We also need to continue to demand a New Deal for CUNY that will make tuition free again for students who are New York City residents.

As an advocate and activist on behalf of Assembly District 31 residents that are both homeowners and renters, I am dedicated to continuing to fight for housing justice that will ensure that Assembly District 31 residents and all New Yorkers are guaranteed housing and a dignified quality of life. I believe that we should give housing vouchers to all New Yorkers so that everyone has a place to live and am committed to continuing to introduce and co-sponsor legislation and promote community initiatives that will ensure tenant protections and eliminate roadblocks to Black and brown homeownership.
