As the Mayor of Woodlawn Park, I want you to know that I am against the middle housing initiative that will be pushed on our residents that purchased in a single family R- 4 zoned area. I just can’t see how our current infrastructure could possibly maintain these types of middle housing that are being proposed. I’m in favor of housing but there must be a better way than to interrupt a single family R- 4 zoned city that’s been this way since 1954.

Please do your constituents a favor and vote NO if this proposal comes to the Metro Council for a vote.

Even though the JCLC had already shared its viewpoint regarding this, we shared a few of the same items we wanted to see in the final draft. Months went by and I actually thought perhaps the initiative was not going anywhere. Recently though, I heard a final draft is being prepared.
If Middle Housing was to move forward, here were a few ideas we wanted to see in the draft:
1) only allow this to happen on existing vacant land property
2) give each small city an opt out opportunity
3) give small cities their zoning rights back

Opposes the Middle Housing Initiative in single-family R-4 areas, citing concerns that local infrastructure cannot support the proposed housing.

Calls for the Middle Housing Initiative, if adopted, to be limited to vacant land, allow municipal opt-outs, and return zoning authority to small cities.

- The duties of the mayor depend on the type of government within the city,
- If the city has a mayor-council form of government, the mayor is responsible for the executive and administrative functions of the government. They oversee all city departments, but cannot vote in most council matters.
- If the city has a mayor-aldermen form of government, the mayor is responsible for executing and enforcing local and state laws. The mayor may appoint city officials with approval from the aldermen.
- If the city has a mayor-commission form of government, the mayor presides over the city commissioners and can vote within the commission. The mayor is responsible for executing all decisions reached by the commission.
- If the city has a city manager form of government, the mayor presides over the city commissioners and can vote within the commission. The mayor is recognized as the head of the city department but does not have any regular administrative duties.
- City mayors are elected during general elections for a four-year term. Most cities in Kentucky hold nonpartisan elections for mayor.
