Openly Gay Judge Appointed to Gwinnett County Superior Court

Angela is currently a  Superior Court Judge. She was appointed Superior Court Judge in Gwinnett Judicial Circuit in Georgia in 2020 and is serving her 1st term. 

Angela previously served in the U.S. military as a Lightweight Vehicle Mechanic from 1987 until 1995. She was also a criminal defense, personal injury, and family law attorney.

As superior court judge, oversees cases involving criminal felonies, the administration of wills and estates, evictions of renters, and divorce proceedings, and exercises authority to review and correct the rulings of lower courts.

As a criminal defense attorney, ensured defendants’ rights were not violated by the government over the course of an investigation or trial, gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses, provided advice and counsel on sentencing standards and possible plea deals, and represented defendants during pre-trial hearings, the trial, and any post-trial sentencing hearings.

As a magistrate court judge, held preliminary hearings in minor criminal cases, oversaw civil suits and the recovery of personal property, and issued search and arrest warrants.

- Georgia Superior Court Judges hear a wide range of criminal cases from petty theft and public drunkenness to murder. Some cases in front of the Georgia Superior Court involve the death penalty. 
- On the civil side, Superior Court Judges hear cases on divorce, titles to land, contract disputes, and premises liability.
