Chante Baker Martin is originally from Midway, Georgia. She earned a bachelor's degree in English from Spelman College, and and a doctorate in American studies with a concentration in 20th-century African American literature from Emory University. Chanté lives in Allenhurst with her husband and daughter. She attends Baconton Missionary Baptist Church.

Chante currently serves as associate professor of English and interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at Savannah State University. 

Chante is currently a member of the Liberty County Board of Education.
