He is married to Stephanie, a third‑grade teacher, and they have three children: Halley, Kate, and Hoke. The family attends The Jefferson Church. Cole has served in leadership roles with the Georgia Cattlemen’s Association, the Georgia Farm Credit Association, and the Jackson County Builders Association. He was recognized as the Georgia Young Farmers Association’s top Beginning Farmer in 2014.

Joseph currently serves as the District 5 commissioner for the Jackson County Board of Commissioners. He was first elected in a special election on March 12, 2024, and is serving a term that runs through December 31, 2026. He is seeking re‑election in the 2026 general election.
