Deborah is a lifelong resident of New York City, born and raised in Queens. She has lived in Greenwich Village for over 40 years. She earned her bachelor's degree from the City University of New York's Queens College and received a master's of business administration degree from Fordham University.

Deborah previously worked as the deputy director of general services at the City Department of Housing, Preservation, and Development. She also owned and managed a small printing business in Tribeca.
