Abe Jones currently serves as a state representative in District 38. He was elected to that position in 2020 and is serving his second term. He previously served as a superior court judge in Judicial District 10. He was appointed to that position in 1995 and served 2 full terms. He ran for superior court judge in 2012 and North Carolina Court of Appeals in 2014 and 2016, but he did not win any of those races.

Abe currently works as an attorney at his own practice, Law Offices of Abraham Penn Jones, and as an adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapell Hill Law School. He previously worked as an Assistant United States Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office and as an associate at the Adams, McCullough & Beard law firm.

Abe is from Wilson. He holds a bachelor's degree from Harvard University and a law degree from Harvard Law School. He is a member of Martin Street Baptist Church.
