Iredell Free News: Young announces bid to seek second term as District Court judge in Iredell and Alexander counties

Rob earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy and economics from the University of North Carolina at Asheville, a master's degree in religious studies from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a law degree from Drake University Law School.

Prior to his election, Rob worked as a privately practicing attorney for five years and as a county government attorney for over 20 years.

Rob Young is currently a District Court Judge serving Judicial District 22A. He was elected in 2020 and is serving his first term.

Has experience in both private and public practice on the state and federal level.

Has experience working as a child welfare attorney and has written two legal treatises in the area of juvenile law.

Rob Young

- District Court judges hear civil, criminal, and juvenile cases. Civil cases dealing with divorce, child custody, and child support are heard in District Court. 
- Under the District Court, the magistrate can try small claims cases ($10,000 or less), landlord eviction cases, and suits for recovery of personal property. A magistrate is an independent judicial officer, recognized by the North Carolina Constitution as an officer of the district court. 
- District Court Judges are elected for a four-year term. Elections are partisan.
