Randal is married. He has previously served on the Ocracoke Health Center board and the Occupancy Tax board.  

Randal is retired. He previously worked in telecommunications for Century Link. He was also the cofounder of Ride the Wind Surf Shop and the owner of Thurston House B&B. 

Randal Mathews currently serves as a Hyde County Commissioner. He was elected in 2020 and is serving his first term.
