Katie holds a bacehlor's degree in human biology and a law degree, both from the University of Montana. She is married to her husband, Phil. She serves on the board for the Poverello Center homeless shelter, and is on the Leadership Team of the University District Neighborhood Council. 

Katie has experience working as an intellectual property attorney, co-owner of a business, and as a neuroscience research assistant.
