Sheriff Melody M. Maddox has served as the DeKalb County Sheriff since December, 2019. She is the first woman to hold this office. She was appointed as Chief Deputy of the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office in July 2019, before becoming Sheriff.

Melody's law enforcement career spans over 28 years, including roles as Chief Deputy and Chief of Administration at the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, a Master Police Officer with the DeKalb County Police Department, and the first female Chief of Police at Georgia Piedmont Technical College.

Melody is a lifelong resident of DeKalb County, Georgia, where she currently resides. She earned her bachelor's degree in sociology from Morris Brown College and a master's degree in General Administration from Central Michigan University. Melody is a member of Saint Philip A.M.E. Church. She has one daughter.
