This is Lydia C. Powell's first entry into politics.

Powell currently serves as an Assistant Principal with Henry and Fayette County Schools, and is a part-time Adjunct Professor at Thomas University. She has experience as an educator, working for Georgia and Florida school systems.

Powell is from Queens, New York. She has a bachelor's degree from Florida A&M University, a master's degree from Florida State University, and a PhD from the University of Sarasota. She is a mother of three children. She is a Christian.
