Awet Eyasu vacated council seat to run for school board

Awet is from Eritrea in East Africa. He attended the University of Asmara and graduated in 2000. He continued his education at UCLA’s and earned his Master’s degree in African Studies two years later. Awet then moved to Clarkston, Georgia, and is married with 4 children.  

Awet is a Historian at Freelance Consulting and has been in this position since 2000. He is also a Language Interpreter at TBI Airport Management Inc. and assumed this position earlier this year. He is also a licensed Life Insurance Agent.

Awet "Howard" Eyasu is running for the County Board of Education in DeKalb County. He has served on the Clarkston City Council since 2016.

Said, “ One thing I think about a lot…is the increasing challenge that many people in my community have in accessing the information and resources they need to thrive… As families are pressured to spend more of their energy and resources navigating these challenges, my fear is that they’ll inevitably have less to pour into their children’s learning.”
