Bill Hitchens is currently representing Georgia District 161 as a House Representative for the Republican Party. He was elected in 2012 and has served six terms.

Bill was a Commissioner for the Georgia Department of Public Safety. He previously worked as the Director of the Georgia Office of Homeland Security for two years and served 47 combined years in the military for the United States Coast Guard and in Georgia state law enforcement.

Bill holds a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and Political Science from Georgia Southern University in 1975 and graduated from the National FBI Academy in 1982 . He is married to his wife Norma, and has four children with her, and ten grandchildren. His family resides in Rincon, Georgia and are members of the Baptist Church at Ebenezer. He serves as Chairman of Subcommittee for Appropriations, and is involved with the of the Defense & Veterans Affairs, Economic Development & Tourism, and the Public Safety & Homeland Security Committee amongst others.
