Gary attended Ohio Wesleyan University and Rutgers University Law School. He is married with a daughter. They are members of the Antioch-Lithonia Missionary Baptist Church and the Rockdale County branch of the NAACP.

Gary has held roles as an attorney at the Georgia Appellate Resources Center and as a senior attorney at the Fulton County Public Defender’s Office. He has also been a law clerk for Attorney Matthew J. Perry, Jr. and staff attorney for the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in Richmond, Virginia. 

Gary W. Washington was a judicial candidate for the Rockdale Judicial Circuit in 2012 but did not win. 



In law school, he one of the first two African American editors for the Rutgers Law Review.

Past instructor at the National Criminal Defense College, Mercer Law School in Macon, Georgia, and he has lectured for the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Has conducted numerous “Know Your Rights” workshops in Rockdale County and throughout the nation on topics such as “Act Like a Citizen. Think Like a Cop” and “Youth and The Law: What Young People Don’t Know That Can Land Them in Jail.”

Probate court judges are a type of judge in Georgia who decides a type of civil court cases called a "probate" case. Probate cases can be many things, like cases about people's wills, appointing guardians to children or the elderly, and managing estates. Probate court judges also sometimes decide whether to give out marriage licenses and gun licenses, and they can also decide traffic cases.
