Spencer currently serves as the Executive Director for Athens Habitat for Humanity. He has also been a small business owner and a construction manager, has helped to export American ambulances overseas, and co-founded an environmental company.

Spencer is the current representative for District 122 in the Georgia House of Representatives. He was first elected in 2012.
