- The Court of Appeals Judge reviews proceedings that occurred in the trial courts for errors of law or legal procedure. They decide if the trial court correctly applied the law to the case.
- The Court of Appeals Judge deals with a majority of cases appealed from the Superior and District courts in civil and criminal cases.

- The Commissioner of Insurance regulates the insurance industry, handles complaints related to insurance companies, and licenses insurance agents.
- The Commissioner of Insurance regulates how stocks and equity securities for insurance companies are traded within the state.
- The Commissioner of Insurance appoints the State Fire Marshal. The Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) duties include training fire and rescue personnel, reviewing construction plans for state building projects, as well as getting property insurance for state owned property.

- The Lieutenant Governor is the President of the North Carolina Senate, they preside over daily sessions. They can vote as a tiebreaker in the Senate if they are equally divided.
- The Lieutenant Governor serves as Vice-Chair to the North Carolina Capital Planning Commission, which compiles and maintains building records 
- The Lieutenant Governor serves on a number of important boards and commissions, including Domestic Violence Commission, Military Affairs Commission, Energy Policy Council, North Carolina Board of Education, North Carolina Capital Planning Commission, and the Board of Community Colleges.
- When the Governor cannot perform their duties, Lieutenant Governor-elect becomes Governor. Such instances may occur from the Governor's removal, resignation, or death.

- The President is the leader of the federal Executive Branch. They are primarily responsible for implementing and enforcing laws written by Congress.
- The President influences the national laws and regulations by proposing legislation and winning support from members of Congress. They can also veto legislation that was approved by Congress, which can only then be overridden by a two-thirds vote.
- The President can pass executive orders without the approval of Congress. Examples of historic executive orders include Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, which freed all slaves, and Franklin Roosevelt's establishment of internment camps during World War II.
- The President is the Commander in Chief of the US Armed Forces, which includes the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, and Coast Guard. Only Congress can declare war, but the President plays a key role in deciding when and where to deploy troops, even when war hasn't been declared. The President also has sole nuclear launch authority.
- The President appoints and manages the Vice President and their Cabinet, which includes the heads of 15 executive departments that impact a wide range of issues, including agriculture, education, housing, and transportation.
- Outside of their official powers, the President can act as a leader to the American public, as seen in moments of crisis, like Franklin D. Roosevelt's fireside chats during the Great Depression. Additionally, their advocacy for certain policies or social issues can shape public opinion and create action, similar to how President John F. Kennedy galvanized the nation around the space race in the 1960s.

- The Attorney General is the Head of the Department of Justice. They represent North Carolina’s government departments, agencies, and commissions in court. They usually do not prosecute specific crimes – that usually falls to the local District Attorneys.
- In addition to representing state agencies, the Attorney General can initiate court proceedings on behalf of North Carolina's public interest. For example, the Attorney General may sue corporations whose actions have harmed the public, such as when pharmaceutical companies were sued in response to the opioid crisis.
- The Attorney General provides legal opinions to the General Assembly, Governor, or other public officials. These opinions are usually the State’s interpretation of certain legal questions presented and do not have the full effect of law or court order.
- The Attorney General handles all criminal appeals from state trial courts. When a case gets appealed by trial court, the attorney general steps in to represent the state or agencies of the state. 
- The Attorney General is elected for a 4-year term. The position has no term limit.

- The Governor is the chief executive of the state and is tasked with faithfully carrying out the laws of the state. 
- The Governor can advocate for their legislative agenda. They also can veto legislation passed by the state legislature. However, a supermajority in the state legislature can vote to adopt a bill despite the Governor's veto. 
- The Governor appoints more than 350 statewide boards and commissions. The Governor appoints department heads, who make up the Cabinet. 
- The Governor is elected for a four-year term, with a limit of two consecutive terms. The governor must be at least 30 years old, a citizen of the U.S. for five years, and a resident of North Carolina for two years immediately preceding the election.

- The Auditor conducts financial audits of North Carolina’s government agencies, ensuring tax dollars are well-spent and that corruption does not occur.
- The Auditor's office examines books, records, files, papers, documents, and financial affairs of every state agency. They often comment on the operational and financial affairs of the North Carolina State Government.
- The Auditor has the power to make people produce records and answer questions under oath.
