Roy Kurban was previously the chairman of the academic advisory board for Tarrant County College's Criminal Justice Department and taught administrative law courses at Southwest Texas University. Additionally, he served in the police force for Dalworthington Gardens, trained U.S. Treasury, FBI, Army, and National Guard Agents, and helped establish taekwondo courses at the University of Texas at Arlington. Roy was a professional martial artist and karate competitor. 

Roy previously served as a Tarrant County judge.
