MEET GRANDISON

I am a proud public servant, U.S. Army veteran, educator, and community leader whose life has been shaped by faith, family, and a deep commitment to service. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, I was raised with strong values rooted in discipline, respect, and perseverance principles that continue to guide me in every area of my life.

After graduating, I continued my education through college studies, building the academic foundation that would later support my leadership roles in both the military and civilian sectors. I attended the University of New Orleans, the University of Phoenix, and Excelsior University, where I focused on personal development, leadership, and professional growth.

My leadership has consistently focused on fairness, opportunity, and the belief that government and institutions should serve people with integrity. I have also traveled between Louisiana and Texas in ministry, and I currently serve as the Pastor of Intergenerational House of Prayer, a nondenominational church located in the Greenspoint area of Houston.

My wife (Teoka) and I, who is also a fellow military veteran, have built our family on shared values of faith, service, and commitment. Together, we raise our children in Brazoria County and remain deeply invested in the strength of local schools, safe communities, and public institutions that people can trust.

Grandison Porter is from New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended the University of New Orleans, the University of Phoenix, and Excelsior University, and serves as pastor of Intergenerational House of Prayer, a nondenominational church in Houston's Greenspoint area. He and his wife, Teoka, are raising their children.

One of the most meaningful moments in my journey of education and community service came when I received an Honorary Doctorate from Kingdom Heritage University.

I also answered the call to serve my country by joining the United States Army, beginning a distinguished military career that spanned more than 20 years of service. I am a combat veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, I have served in demanding environments that required integrity, accountability, and mission-focused leadership.

After retiring from active service, I continued my mission of developing people and strengthening systems by becoming an Army JROTC Instructor, where I mentor and teach young leaders daily. In the classroom, I continue to instill values of citizenship, discipline, leadership, and service by helping shape the next generation into confident, capable, and community-minded adults.

Grandison Porter currently works as an Army Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps instructor. He previously served in the U.S. Army for more than 20 years.

- Serves as clerk and custodian of all records for district courts. Supports attorney general and child protective services courts.
- Indexes and secures all court records and verdicts, collects filing fees, and handles funds held in litigation and money awarded to minors. Also manages court registry funds and may process passport applications.
- Fulfills requests from attorneys or via court order to issue documents, collecting fees and distributing them to state and local agencies monthly.
- Gathers data and reports to various agencies to assist county, state, and Texas Legislature in proper operation of courts, effectiveness of statues, and any need for changes.
- Often in courtroom, filing documents, administrating oaths to defendants, witnesses, and jurors, and assists judge in docket management. Coordinates jury panel selection process and acts as liaison between jurors, courts, and employers.
- District clerks are elected through partisan, county-wide elections to four-year terms. Candidates must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, have been a Texas resident for at least 12 consecutive months, a county resident for at least six consecutive months, and registered to vote in that county.
- The annual salary for district clerks range from $35,236 to $207,952, set by the county’s Commissioners Court.
