• Housing & Urban Development — Commissioners oversee the construction and upkeep of county roads and bridges. They decide on building permits and zoning policies, can create districts for managing water, waste, or transportation, and have the authority to tax property and unmined minerals.

• Policing — Responsible for the county budget and managing county departments. That determines how the county funds and runs county law enforcement, emergency management, and other public services.
