Supporting Small Businesses

Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy. Tony believes in investing in local businesses by lowering the costs of getting into business, providing grants and low interest loans for sufficient capital, and offering training for cash flow management and business acumen. Keeping our money in our own community by shopping small businesses will help grow our local economy, and improve the lives of all of our community members.

For example, a 12 MW facility typically requires about 20 full-time staff, including technicians, engineers, and management. A 40 MW facility may employ around 45 people, while hyperscale data centers over 100 MW often operate with fewer people per megawatt due to automation and standardized systems. -Broadstaffglobal.com When you compare the number of employees, most of which will remote into the center from likely a different state, you will notice there are a very insignificant number of employees compared to the acreage footprint used for the site. I personally would rather see small, local businesses have use of that land. The amount of land used for data centers has been as high as 224 acres. The average small business takes up between .5 to 1 acre. This gives us so much more room for economic growth. The money would stay in the community.

This Thursday, June 25th at 9:00am will be the second and final reading of the data center regulations at the Warren County Fiscal Court meeting. Fiscal Court is made up of Magistrates who represent you and each of the six districts. I would love if everyone showed up, got involved, and voice your opinion on the regulations. While these first data center regulations may be going into effect in our city and county, we can keep pushing for more stringent stipulations than what has been proposed. Three football fields. That is the proposed distance it has to be away from your home.
