- Juvenile Court Judge cases hear and decide cases for children under the age of 17 who have been charged with a crime, children 16 and younger who have been charged with a traffic offense, and children under the age of 18 who have been deemed a dependent child or Children in Need of Services (CHINS). 
- CHINS cases are children charged with truancy, runaway, violation of curfew, possession of alcohol, or being "habitually ungovernable." A dependent child is a child whose parent or guardian has neglected, abandoned, or abused them. 
- The Juvenile Court system also handles emancipation cases, parental notification of abortion cases, mental competency, minors looking to join the military, and minors trying to get a marriage license. 
- Most Juvenile Court Judges in Georgia are elected to four year terms in nonpartisan elections.
