Data center legislation on DeKalb Commission's May 12 agenda

Jan Dunaway, a Soil and Water Conservation District supervisor for DeKalb County, noted that the draft ordinance does not include protections against chemically treated water discharged from data centers. Water treatment plants are not equipped to remove chemicals and heavy metals from water, she said.

“You must protect the citizens and our downstream neighbors,” Dunaway said.

DeKalb considers removing definition of data center campus

A few people also spoke out against the data center during the public comment period.

County resident Jan Dunaway said the board needs to deny the permit.

“This is an environmentally sensitive area that’s already been partially developed. We are hoping they deny it outright,” she said.
