  • The County Coroner runs the Coroner’s Office, which is responsible for conducting an unbiased investigation on the cause, manner, and circumstance of death.
  • The Coroner is responsible for pronouncing someone dead, for photographing and documenting the place of death, and for releasing remains to be cremated, transported to another state, or autopsied.
  • They are also responsible for collecting evidence at the location of death. This includes physical evidence and interviews from witnesses.
  • Coroners are responsible for removing the body from the place of death, and informing their family of their death in a timely manner.
  • Coroners are elected to four year terms in nonpartisan elections.
