Markita is a resident of Broadway and was born and raised in Harnett County. She graduated from Western Harnett High School, then earned her associate;s degree from Central Carolina Community College, a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Winston-Salem State University, and a master’s degree in criminal justice from Troy University.

Markita is a retired public servant who has worked with Lee County Youth and Adult Services as a youth shelter director and with the NC Department of Public Safety: Juvenile Justice Division in the 11th Judicial District. She also served as the department chair of justice studies at Central Carolina Community College.
