Sonya holds an associate's degree from South Central Kentucky Community and Technical College and a degree in medical assisting from Davidson Technical College. Sonya is married to her husband, Jeff, with whom she has 2 daughters and 1 grandson. She lives in Bowling Green. She is a volunteer with the Browning Volunteer Fire Department. 

Sonya currently works as an administrative assistant for the Allied Health & Nursing Department at Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College. She also works as an emergency medical technician at Western Kentucky University.
