- A Public Service Commissioner is an elected official who serves on the Public Service Commission. This statewide, three-person board acts as the chief regulators for public utilities in Mississippi. This includes telecommunications, electric, gas, water, and sewer utilities in Mississippi. .
- Public Service Commissioners heavily influence how much you pay in utilities by regulating the rates charged by most intrastate, investor-owned telecommunications, gas, and electric utilities operating in Mississippi (companies such as Entergy Mississippi, Inc. and Mississippi Power Company).
- The commission is made up of three members who are elected statewide every four years. Elections take place in odd-numbered years before a presidential election (2023, 2027, 2031, etc.). There are no term limits.
