- The Insurance Commissioner is responsible for carrying out all state laws about insurance companies and corporations, including licensing and regulating insurance companies.
- The Insurance Commissioner also serves as the state fire marshall and enforces the Mississippi Fire Prevention Code.
- The Insurance Commissioner is elected to four year terms in statewide elections. Elections take place in odd-numbered years before presidential elections (2023, 2027, 2031, etc.).
