Mississippi Governor

• School Curriculum — The Governor appoints five out of the nine members of the State Board of Education, who are responsible for setting the curriculum and other policies for Mississippi’s schools.

• Public Safety — The Governor decides who runs the Department of Public Safety, which supervises the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, and the state Capitol Police.

• Public Health — The Governor decides who runs the Mississippi Department of Health, the agency that tracks disease outbreaks, tests drinking water, licenses healthcare facilities, and prepares for natural disasters and other emergencies.
