Tell us more about yourself.
I'm a former Dollar General cashier who graduated from Booker T. Washington High and Florida State University. I worked at financial nonprofits before becoming a professional writer for various publications. I’ve written extensively about the arts and have served on boards expanding access to it. As a board member of the local history center, I'm dedicated to helping southerners encounter the truth about our history, even when it is uncomfortable. I am married to a retired U.S. Marine fighter pilot with whom I have two children; and I obtained a medically necessary but now illegal abortion. I am pro-democracy, pro-health care, and pro-workforce.

Newnan
Is this your first time running for office?
Yes
What experiences have best prepared you to hold elected office?
I've had an abortion and know the importance of autonomous reproductive decisions. While we all want abortion to become rare, GOP politicians want to do it through government overreach. Democrats want to address root causes. GOP politicians don’t understand — or don’t care — that making abortion illegal doesn’t help put food in children’s mouths, make medical conditions disappear, eliminate rape, or provide free, accessible birth control and sex ed. I will address these issues and enact a living minimum wage so parents can care for their children. It's time to reduce the need for abortions while making healthcare safe, legal, and private.
What would be your top priority upon winning office?
Democracy is under attack. I will defend it and serve as an advocate for we the people, who are entitled to justice, freedom, safety and promotion of the general welfare. I will work to ensure voting rights, equal protections under the law, expand Medicare and instill a living minimum wage.
What actions would you take to enhance government transparency and trust in government?
Trust in government is eroded when politicians abandon their morals. My opponent, Matt Brass, attempted to overthrow the will of the people in order to install his personal preference: a convicted rapist and financial criminal who has declared he’ll be a dictator on day one. Brass was demoted within his own party but was never prosecuted in a court of law as he deserved for conspiring to overthrow democratic elections.
Do you believe Georgia elections are secure and what additional security measures can be taken?
Yes. Because there is a growing threat of politicians who wish to sow election doubts whenever an things don’t their way, however, we need to reinstate ballot drop boxes which were under 24/7 surveillance and produced the safest, most accurate elections we’ve ever had.
What is government's responsibility to ensure affordable housing?
The preamble of the U.S. Constitution states that is the role of the government to promote the general welfare of the people. That means addressing the housing shortage. We can achieve this with a two-step approach: 1. Create more housing with government incentives. 2. Restore minimum wage to a living wage and return to the former taxation rates that empowered entrepreneurs. It’s hard to imagine, but in 1968, a person could work a full-time minimum wage job and afford not only to feed, clothe, and house themselves, but also their spouse and child.
Do you believe public access to public records is sufficient in your jurisdiction and, if not, what steps do you support to remedy that?
It is not sufficient. Sadly, after the Citizens United vs. FEC Supreme Court ruling, money is often what determines election outcomes — and buys politicians. I fully support enacting laws that require everyone who runs for office to disclose all sources of campaign funding and personal income as well as declare which portions of bills are written by corporations. Failure to do so should result in removal from office.
