Georgia state Rep. Sheila Jones serves as deputy whip of the House Democratic Caucus and on crucial committees such as the Appropriations Higher Education Sub-Committee, Health, Juvenile Justice and Transportation. She has served as the vice-chair of the Atlanta Delegation; vice-chair of the House Transportation Subcommittee on Rail; parliamentarian, secretary and treasurer of the Georgia Legislative Black, Caucus and secretary of the Working Families Caucus. She sponsored House Bill 373 designating September 11th of each year as First Responders Appreciation Day in Georgia. This bill was signed into law by the governor.

What experiences have best prepared you to hold elected office?

My experience of serving in the Legislature, supporting legislation and introducing legislation has prepared me to continue to hold elected office. Serving as the Georgia state Legislative representative for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers AFL-CIO, where I was the voice for over 9,000 working families in Georgia, has been an experience that helped to prepare me to represent the people in my district. I have gained lots of knowledge and experience from various organizations.

What would be your top priority upon winning office?

1. Affordable Housing and capping the rental rates for seniors in senior living facilities. This year I introduced House Resolution 1502 urging the senior living industry to implement rent control measures. 2. Improving health care access.

What actions would you take to enhance government transparency and trust in government?

I will continue to hold town hall meetings and send out newsletters informing my constituents of the important issues that are taking place at the state capitol.

Do you believe Georgia elections are secure and what additional security measures can be taken?

Yes, and I am proud that our election system is ranked amongst the most secure in the nation. As technology moves forward, so will Georgia.

What is government's responsibility to ensure affordable housing?

Providing financial resources and offering tax subsidies for home ownership.

Do you believe public access to public records is sufficient in your jurisdiction and, if not, what steps do you support to remedy that?

Yes.
