What experiences have best prepared you to hold elected office?
My previous experience of working for former Mayor Floyd Adams Jr. taught me how to be a true servant leader. My previous experience of working in the public defender’s office taught me how to be a manager of people, budgets, programs and systems. My experience as an owner and managing partner taught me leadership philosophies. A managing partner of a law firm is responsible for setting the vision, mission and goals of the firm. Lastly, my experience as a pro tem judge prepared me. Since 2018, I have attended six judicial training seminars and earned over 72 hours of continuing legal education credits.
What actions would you take to enhance government transparency and trust in government?
I would hold quarterly town hall meetings to inform the public about the role of the court.
The court system is increasingly seen as overtly political. What more can be done to assure the public that the courts are neutral arbitrators of the law?
Hold quarterly town hall meetings with residents and invite residents to observe court proceedings. Additionally, invite the residents to engage and learn about the judges other than during campaign cycles.
What are your personal security concerns, given the increasing attacks on judges and court officials nationwide and the rise in hostility toward judicial officials generally?
N/A
How will you manage large caseloads exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic?
One case at a time.
A number of judges are now streaming their court hearings and trials so they are completely open to the public. Will you commit to streaming your courtroom proceedings so anyone will be able to view them? If not, why not?
Yes.
Do you believe public access to public records is sufficient in your jurisdiction and, if not, what steps do you support to remedy that?
Yes.
